Is Hip Hop Dying?

As a teenager in the 1990’s, we listened to many iconic rappers and hip hop artists. 2Pac, Nas, Public Enemy, Notorious BIG, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, A Tribe Called Quest, Ghost Face, Jay-Z, Wu Tang Clan, LL Cool J…the list goes on and on. These guys were great, both with beats they provided us, and the lyrics that they used. The lyrics had power, meaning, and a message. It saddens me that, in my opinion, hip hop is dying. No longer are lyrics powerful. No longer are beats hard or original. Instead we have a bunch of trash running around praying on the musical taste of 15 year old females who wouldn’t know good music if it hit them upside the head while they were watching the latest episode of Gossip Girl. Yes, boys and girls, Lil' Wayne is trash.

Synthesized voice? Terrible lyrics? 15 year old females like it? Guilty on all counts.

Bangs....a man that enjoys movies, popcorn, and a nice squirt of perfume.

I think Bangs should produce his own kind of perfume for men called “Bangs”, kind of like the man bra ("bro") or man purse in Seinfeld.

Best blog created to date Matt. Hip Hop is DEAD and replaced with HIP POP. Lil Wayne is trash, soulja boy is trash, tpain is trash, drake is trash, gucci mane trash, and almost all other mainstream rappers are trash. I refuse to listen to the radio now because the shit that gets played on their makes me sick to my stomach. Lil Wayne is possibly the worst rapper of all time. His lyrics mean nothing and there is no message in them. All Lil Wayne contributes to society is to further ruin and tarnish the legacy of rap music when it meant something....and give me excruciating headaches. People get way to caught up in the beats of his songs and automatically proclaim that he is nasty. Yes the beats he gets are very good and thats the point to cover up his lack of skill, hell I’m sure Dan Donato could sound good on some of the beats Lil Wayne has(sorry dan had too). The dude talks about the same thing EVERY single song and his voice makes me want to take a loaded barbell and drop it on my head. However while mainstream rap does absolutely SUCK, I encourage anyone who appreciates meaningful lyrics, sick rhyming, and music that actually has a purpose to listen to underground rap. Immortal Technique is in my opinion the most clever, intelligent and meaningful lyricist of all to ever pick up a mic, even more then tupac and thats saying something because anyone that knows me knows how much I love tupac. Other good listens are Boot Camp Clik, Atmosphere, Terminology, Canibus, MF Doom, Jedi Mind Tricks, Mos Def, Ras Kass, R.A the Rugged Man, Apathy and Sabac Red. Preserve your hearing, stay Old School and stay underground.

Your listening to all the wrong Lil Wayne - I agree alot of his stuff is bad....but thats what is on the radio. He produces alot of stuff most people have never heard that is great. And as for it being dead...did you forget about Eminem, Ludacris, Jay-Z, Nas, Dr.Dre, Fabolous. These are quality lyricists who most people couldnt name their last album. But if you took the chance to listen to it you would say otherwise about hiphop. Souldja Boy by the way is the worst....thing...of all time…

Even the Lil wayne stuff not on the radio isn’t that good. SOme of it is alright and a couple songs are good but most is still trash. There are a few mainstream rappers that are good for an instance I like Young Jeezy, Ludacris, Eminem, Jay Z is alright BP3 was really good though, and Fabolous is good at times. But after that there’s not much else thats good. I still think that the majority of commercial rap sucks, there’s afew bright spots here and there but overall it blows.

I dont get why everyone hates weezy. Regardless of what he talks about, the guy knows how to make a catchy song, a song that everyone will know if they hear it. Bonach i know you hate him, but Im sure at some point “Milli” or “Lollipop” or “Got Money” has been stuck in your head, the man knows how to make a hit. I think Drake is one of the better rappers around right now...but if i am listening to hip hop, its BIG or K’naan

Those are good choices guys, I’m looking forward to lifting without trash coming on while I’m trying to bench or squat. And bonach don’t be jealous of my ryhming ability, I spit hot fire on any beat, anywhere, anytime.

Dan basically is bangs....and the beats in got money and lollipop are good, i dont think the a milli beat is good i find it rather annoying but I find that the beats of lil waynes songs are whats catchy not his lyrics
