Phelps Training Systems Metabolic Meltdown

The Metabolic Meltdown is a program that is catered to people who are not currently “athletes” for a specific sport, but are looking to get stronger, leaner, and most importantly, healthier. The program is a high intensity, no nonsense workout that is designed to make our clients sweat, and to help them shed pounds. We emphasize high rep ranges, and constant motion to keep our clients’ heart rates elevated for the duration of the workout, and this in turn promotes an increased activity in the metabolism, which can help lead to significant weight loss. We look to work and strengthen all of the major muscle groups of our clients, and use compound movements whenever possible so that we are taxing multiple work systems simultaneously, which yields the most efficient workout possible.

Working out though is only one part of the Metabolic Meltdown experience. Nutrition is a huge part of weight loss, as well as just getting into better shape, and as part of the Metabolic Meltdown program, our clients are held responsible for making sure that they are taking care of their diets. Matt provides an outline of “good foods” and what would be considered “cheat meals”. Using his “cheat meal” system, which essentially limits, but does not absolutely deprive up of foods that we love but know are not very good for us, Matt puts his clients into a position to feel better, see results, and most importantly, become even healthier!

We live in a nation where the leading cause of death for both men and women is heart disease. Lacrosse is an extremely unique sport to train for in the sense that it requires many different athletic qualities: speed, strength, power, agility, size, and a high level of conditioning. In order to be at the top of your game, you need to train with a great degree of intensity; an intensity that is often difficult to create on your own.

By emphasizing maximum upper and lower body strength/power training, bodybuilding methods to create a larger athlete, metabolic conditioning through the implementation of strongman training and other alternative methods of conditioning, and core strength developed through a vast array of rotational movements, you can be sure to meet your personal goals when you take the field each and every spring!
 
 
 

Phelps Training Systems Football Training

As the Capital Region's premier training facility for Pop Warner, Junior Varsity, Varsity, Collegiate, and Professional football players, Phelps Training Systems has everything you need to prepare your body for combat on the gridiron each and every fall.

It is our philosophy that athletes who gain speed/agility, size, strength, conditioning and explosive power will perform better on the field, and will be less likely to become injured. It is also our belief that there is NO off season from the weight room. We have different training protocols for off-season, pre-season, and in-season  lifting to have you performing at a high level when it counts the most...during your games. Who cares if you get as strong as an Ox in July, when the regional playoffs are in November? At PTS not only will we build your strength and muscular development, but we will KEEP it all year round.

Believe it or not, our Speed/Agility/Conditioning program is not very different from the Pop Warner level to the most advanced athletes that we train. Obviously as the athletes grow older, an increasing amount of advanced level techniques are implemented, such as overspeed training, resisted running, etc., but at the end of the day, our S.A.C. program does NOT include a lot of "fluff," gadgets, and gizmos that seem to permeate the market today. To get fast, you have to sprint as fast you can, with proper technique, and in a competitive atmosphere. Performed in conjunction with our strength training program, our S.A.C. program has never ceased to produce outstanding results.

In addition, ALL of our athletes are educated about nutrition, rest, hydration, and supplementation, as these training components will have a HUGE effect on the results that we attain during our training program. We provide our athletes will the "blueprint" and the "workers to "build" a nice "house." It is up to them to BUILD that house. Pre, peri, and post workout nutrition is also available on site for all of our athletes, at a very minimal cost.

Youth Football

-This training program is intended for boys that are 10-13 years of age.

-Technique is taught on core lifts that the boys will use with increasing intensity as they grow older, such as the Bench Press, Box Squat, and Trap Bar Deadlift.

-"Joint Friendly" full body strength training is conducted, with bodyweight training (i.e. pushups, chinups, lunges), sled pushing, sled pulling, core training, and grip work which develop the musculature without placing an overwhelming stress on the joints, tendons, and ligaments.

Junior Varsity Football

-This training program is intended for boys that are 14-15 years of age.

-An emphasis is placed on strength, power, and muscular development through the introduction of our off-season football strength training template, which includes Full Body workouts for this age group.

-Plenty of work is still used with "technique" sets, where the athletes will use a submaximal load to practice proper form on all of their exercises. The boys will never perform a "working" set below 6-8 reps, in order to ensure safety.

Varsity Football

-These training techniques target boys that are 16-18 years of age.

-Max Effort Lower Body and Upper Body training is introduced to the boys who are in this program. This includes safely training in the 3-5 rep range to increase max strength, while still placing a high priority on exercise technique.

-Rate of Force Development, through the implementation of Tire Flips, Box Jumps, and Olympic Lifts are introduced into the program in order to produce the explosive power needed to excel in football. The intensity of these exercises is closely monitored in order to ensure safe, effective workouts.

Collegiate/Pro Football

-This is our most advanced level of programming available. Due to the fact that many of these athletes are highly trained, exercise selection is varied frequently to continue to elicit a response for growth and strength.

-Bands, chains, and boards are introduced to both Max Effort and Dynamic Effort  (Rate of Force Development) Days.

-Workouts are extremely intense, competitive, and fun. We place a huge degree of importance on applying this intensity to heavy sets that develop maximal strength and power, as well as sets in the 6-15 rep range that enhance muscular development.
